Blizzard Entertainment’s 2004 massively multiplayer online game (MMO) “World of Warcraft” has amassed 100 million different accounts, including trial accounts, since the game’s release date in November 2004, nearly a decade ago.

Blizzard made the announcement on its “WoW” blog yesterday. The developer also provided a detailed infographic about the game, revealing some pretty cool facts about the popular MMO.

-”World of Warcraft” is played in 244 countries and territories, including Antarctica, the Bahamas and Christmas Island.

- 52% of players side with the Alliance, while 47% choose the Horde. 1% remain neutral.

Blizzard has posted a brand new trailer, perhaps heralding the start of preorders for the World of Warcraft expansion, Warlords of Draenor. In it, we get a first-hand look at a fanciful boost to level 90. Among other things, player health will be doubled so that attacks shave off less life. By so doing, a player’s dependence on the PvP stat of Resilience will be reduced. Healers and healing spells will also receive love from the dev team: One of our goals for healing in Warlords of Draenor is to tone down the raw throughput of healers relative to the size of player health pools. Currently, as healers and their allies acquire better and better gear, the percentage of a player’s health that any given heal restores increases significantly. As a result, healers are able to refill health bars so fast that we have to make damage more and more “bursty” in order to challenge them. Ideally, we want players to spend some time below full health without having healers feel like the players they’re responsible for are in danger of dying at any moment.

We also think that healer gameplay would be more varied, interesting, and skillful if your allies spent more time between 0% and 100%, rather than just getting damaged quickly to low health, forcing the healer to then scramble to get them back to 100% as quickly as possible.

WOW power leveling isn’t devalued

What reason could Blizzard possibly have for the $60 price tag on World of Warcraft was upcoming level 90 boost? According to the studio, it’s so that the accomplishment of actual WOW power leveling isn’t devalued. Ion Hazzikostas, WoW’s lead encounter designer, told Eurogamer that the idea behind selling the boost separately was so that players didn’t have to buy additional copies of the Warlords of Draenor expansion to take advantage of the included free character boost to level 90 on multiple characters. So instead of spending the $60 on an expansion and juggling multiple accounts, players can spend the same amount and use it on a toon on their existing account.

I will admit though I was a big supporter of blizzard at one time, but when a company like this has so much power over the genre it should be taking that boat load of money it gets each month should be re-investing in making the genre less homogenized. but it takes Blizzard so darn long to produce something and the odds are they’ll ditch it if another game has taken the bland ideas they brain stormed.

I once respected them as a game company but that was long ago. the only way to redeem themselves is to actually see that the genre they have made mainstream is wanting change wanting someone to take all the positives from various virtual worlds even sandboxes and theme park’s alike and make the one game that once upon a time, only blizzard could make.

Introduction of about WOW power leveling

Do you know, World of Warcraft’s upcoming expansion, Warlords of Draenor, will feature improved healing mechanics and WOW power leveling, the introduction of about WOW power leveling without too much.

According to the post, the game’s current system for resilience and battle fatigue makes players “feel much weaker” in PvP than PvE. In order to fix the disparity, Blizzard plans to increase player health. Critical damage and critical heals against players in PvP will also be reduced 50 percent.

On its own, that increase in health would make players more survivable in the world at large, so we’re also increasing creature damage and the effectiveness of healing spells to balance things out. The net result of these changes is that individual attacks will knock a smaller chunk off of a player’s health pool in PvP, but your survivability in PvE won’t be affected.

Low-mana heals such as Holy Light and Healing Wave will be removed from the game. Other spells, such as the Greater Healing Wave, will be renamed.

We think that while they do add complexity, they don’t truly add depth to healing gameplay. However, we still want healers to think about their mana when deciding which heal to cast, and so the mana costs and throughputs of many spells are being altered to give players a choice between spells with lower throughput and lower cost versus spells with higher throughput and higher costs.”

Warlords of Draenor includes a Level 90 Character Boost for one character on the upgraded game account. If you want to purchase a Character Boost without the expansion, the service is available in the WOW power leveling.

After you get a Character Boost for your account, whether it’s the boost included with Warlords of Draenor or through the World of Warcraft Shop, you’ll see the option to boost a character when you log into the game and visit your character selection screen.

The Level 90 Character Boost icon will appear near the top of your character list. When you click it, the game will walk you through boosting a character and choosing their talent specialization.

After boost a character to 90, they’ll receive a set of spec-appropriate gear, a set of bags, and some gold to get started. Any gear the character already had will be moved to their bags. If there isn’t enough space in their bags, their old gear will be mailed to them instead.

World of Warcraft’s next expansion is due this year, WOW power leveling is influential

Warlords of Draenor, will be out “on or before” December 20, 2014, according to a new pre-order listing. This fits with Blizzard’s earlier hints that the next expansion would be released in 2014, but it also confirms that there will be a $10 increase over previous Blizzard expansions.

In November 2013, during the annual BlizzCon event, Blizzard confirmed that it was working on Warlords of Draenor. The assembled fans erupted in shouts and cheers as Blizzard went on to confirm that the new content would take players back to the setting of the original Warcraft games, reimagined with the help of better technology and the years spent fine-tuning the series. No release date was given though, and Blizzard has a reputation for releasing games whenever they are ready and not a day before – just look at StarCraft II’s decade long development and three year gap between the sequel and the first expansion for proof of that.

As for the expansion itself, Warlords of Draenor will include the re-imagined land of Draenor to explore, new quests, enhanced character art, a new level cap of 100, and the ability to instantly boost to level 90.The WOW power leveling is influential. “The expansion sends players to Draenor as it existed before it shattered into the realm World of Warcraft players know as Outland—and while some of the names of these places might be familiar, we’re building them all from scratch for the expansion,” Blizzard has announced.

The pre-order also lists the pricing options, which may come as something of a surprise to longtime fans. The Digital Standard Edition will retail for $49.99, a $10 increase over the previous expansions. A Deluxe Digital Edition of the WoW expansion will see a similar $10 increase, and run $69.99.

Blizzard helping hands rub some players the wrong way. It seems like a very clear-cut case of “pay to win.” I might feel as strongly as these nay-sayers if I was an active WoW player. Still, reaching level 90 is hardly “winning” WoW. Leveling is more of a time sink than a test of your abilities. The real learning curve is after you hit the level cap and you start dipping your toes into heroic dungeons, raids and PvP. I’m sure plenty of players would jump at the chance to bypass dozens of hours of leveling so they can dive right into challenging content.

Players who are against level boosts argue that it’s a slippery slope, though. Buying a level 90 character doesn’t affect the endgame but what if Blizzard decides to go a step further. They could eventually start selling items that boost your gold or Valor Point gains. That definitely would have an effect on the competitive balance of WoW.

The other questions in the survey were less controversial but still important. One asked whether players would be willing to pay $39.99 or $49.99 for Warlords of Draenor. The survey also gauged interest on a new WoW Annual Pass, perhaps including Diablo 3 and its Reaper of Souls expansion.

Warlords of Draenor allows players to visit an alternate timeline in which the orcs united under one banner and their homeworld was never destroyed. Players will travel to Draenor to prevent the Iron Horde’s invasion of Azeroth. Blizzard plans to release the expansion later this year.

Monkeys with health and heals in Warlords of Draenor

World of Warcraft has another dev watercooler out today, this time talking about health (your character’s, not your own), healing, and what the team will be doing to improve related systems come Warlords of Draenor.

For starters, the devs will be doubling player health in the expansion to make characters more durable in PvP. “The net result of these changes is that individual attacks will knock a smaller chunk off of a player’s health pool in PvP, but your survivability in PvE won’t be affected,” Blizzard posted.

Other upcoming changes include reducting base resilience and battle fatigue to practically nil, increasing creature damage, increasing the effectiveness of heals, reducing the power of aborbs, and “making smart heals a little less smart.” Some smaller, cheaper healing skills will also be removed from the game, and a few instant-cast heals are on the chopping block as well.
